REVIEW: Abduction

Abduction works as a late night popcorn flick. The film is a reminiscent of the Bourne trilogy, however this is true for many action films that have been made since then. Taylor Lautner should not be an action movie star...yet. He still needs to grow, both in age and maturity. He is a distracting element to the film. Despite this, there are no other actors that come to mind that could have played this character within the scripts bounds. Whether or not that is a compliment is up to you.

The plot tries to be complex although fails. Nathan(Taylor), plays a high school who lives in white suburbia. He soon finds out through a website that he is an abducted child and his parents are actually his foster parents. It turns out that this is actually a C.I.A. cover up. On a side note, everything seems to be a C.I.A. cover up, you would think the C.I.A. would be more careful with their information. Nathan's real parents are C.I.A. agents who need to protect their secrecy because if someone gets access to their child, they will be compromised.

Two hitmen travel to Nathan's home and kills his "parents". Normally all of this information would be a spoiler, but the trailer unwisely spoils all of this information. This causes Nathan to leave with his long time love interest Karen Murphy (Lily Collins). With the help of Dr. Bennett (Sigourney Weaver) the two embark on a mission of survival that takes them through train cars, cafes, and even PNC Park in Pittsburgh. The film is full of cheesy dialogue and is made up of your typical spy/thriller plot points.

The bottom line is that the film will hold your interest for its duration. As opposed to Safe House, Abduction's action pieces are clear to follow and are not ruined by editing. The editing is nice and the scenes are composed well. Luckily for the film's script, John Singleton directed this film, however there is only so much he could do to save this film. I must have been in a great mood to enjoy this film because I do not see myself ever watching it again.
